Staghorn Fern
Botanical Name: Platycerium bifurcatum
Common Name(s): Staghorn Fern, Elkhorn Fern
Description:
Add a dramatic touch of the wild to your space with the Staghorn Fern. Native to Java and southeastern Australia, this eye-catching epiphytic fern features fuzzy, antler-like fronds that can grow impressively large—up to 35 inches tall and wide when mature.
The name bifurcatum refers to the way the fronds split like a stag’s antlers, creating a bold and sculptural silhouette. Whether mounted on wood or potted, this fern is an easy-care showstopper for fern fans and collectors alike. This plant comes in a 4" pot.
Care Tips:
💡 Light: Prefers low to medium indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the fronds.
💧 Water: Keep the root ball lightly moist. Water when the top inch feels dry—mist or soak depending on how it's mounted.
🌡️ Temperature: Best in temps between 60–80°F. Keep away from cold drafts.
🌿 Humidity: Loves humidity! Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, or near a humidifier.
🌱 Potting: Mount on wood or place in a well-draining pot. Use sphagnum moss or a chunky, bark-based mix.
Pet Safety Note: Generally non-toxic, but best kept out of reach to avoid frond damage.
